HOW did you end up where you are today?
I grew up in the Nelson/Tasman region, home to some of the best damn hops on the planet, so naturally, i fell in love with dank beers. I discovered the world of graphic design in school, found it wildly enjoyable, and rode the wave into study & a career in Wellington, and I have been designed cool stuff ever since. Over the years, I've bounced between design & brand marketing roles at Shopify and Trade Me, while also working on epic local events like Fringe Festival, Cuba Dupa, and TEDxWellington. With Wellington's craft beer scene thriving, it was the perfect place to launch my side hustle, Mascot, blending my brand and design skills with my love of beer.
WHY Wellington?
Wellington's creativity had me hooked as a teen. Between the hardcore punk scene, the street art, and the vibrant café and bar culture, I found myself making regular trips here. Moving permanently was a no-brainer, I wanted to be right in the thick of it all.
WHERE is your #1 overseas destination?
Canada. I spent some time there for work, and I'm hooked. It's got the perfect blend of familiarity and novelty, great beers, sports, food and none of the meh bits of the U.S
WHAT are you listening to/watching atm?
I'm a country kick right now, artists like Nick Shoulders, Sierra Ferrell, and Zach Bryan. When things start getting too folksy, I switch back to '80s punk and hardcore for a bit of balance.
WHO are your current sources of inspiration?
James Hurman. He's a branding genius and founder of a few NZ startups, his ability to break down complex ideas is next level. I'm also loving the Beer Branding Trends Podcast by CODO Design, anything that dives deep into beer branding is my jam.
